THE TRUE COST OF SACKING JOSE MOURINHO: THE FACT, FIGURES AND WHAT NEXT?

The Chosen One, now the Compensated One

On Tuesday morning, December 18 2018, “the Special One” Jose Mourinho was sacked from being a Manchester United Manager,  a position he has held since May 2016, having led the team to Europa league and League cup titles. Thus making him to spend two and half seasons with the Red Devil, and thereby continuing his “3rd season syndrome”. At footynomics we analyse the true cost of Mourinho sacking and how it affect both the club and the sacked manager.

Over the years, Jose Mourinho has been “released on a mutual consent” by Chelsea fc twice, 2007 and 2016, Real Madrid once in 2013, and having left Inter Millan, 2010 and Fc Porto, 2004 on glorious moment having won UEFA Champions League with both latter teams. With an estimated 35million ponds in the previous jobs as compensation, the last one at Chelsea fc being a staggering 8.3million pounds to dismiss him and his backroom staff.

According to the UK newspapers The Sun and Daily Mail in August 2018, Jose Mourinho will be paid 12million pounds if sacked, with Mourinho earning twice the money of Pep Guardiola at Man city at 28million Euros to 14.5million Euros as salary in the season before. It is a staggering cost for the club.

In the mean time, the self acclaimed “the chosen one” who has now turned to the “sacked one”, will now get time to enjoy his time with his family in London and reflect on the next move which has already been in the rumour mill, with lot of big clubs still considering the self styled man to replace their current coaches and overhaul the team such as stuttering Real Madrid, Fc Porto, Inter Millan, PSG, Bayern Munich and even Portuguese National team.

However, Jose Mourinho on the wake of his sacking has said that, he has been immensely proud of stint at United, having met some wonderful people, and he hope the media will let him live normal life, until he decided to return to football.
